The Woodland Farmers Market wants to thank everyone who came out for our new version of the Tomato Festival this year! Wanting to focus on more events throughout 2019, the market shifted to a smaller version of our previous years events. In addition to our farmers market vendors we incorporated some of our favorite crowd pleasing events such as our infamous Salsa Competition and Tomato Testing, while Tommy Tomato was roaming around and greeting everyone who came out!
The Salsa Competition was made possible thanks to six different restaurants in Woodland who created a batch of their favorite salsa for the community to try! We had six participants in this years Salsa Competition, in order of serving: 1. Savory Cafe, 2. Las Milpas, 3. Father Paddy’s Pub, 4. Sol Mexican Cuisine, 5. El Patio, 6. Las Brasas. The community voted and our winning salsa this year was the second salsa in line, prepared by Las Milpas Taqueria (link to FB) in Downtown Woodland, 534 Main Street, Woodland CA! Coming in second place we had El Patio (link) and in third place we had Father Paddy’s Pub (link). We were able to serve hundreds of attendees samples of the tasty salsa thanks to our competitors!
At our Tomato Tasting booth, which was presented by the Master Gardeners, we had a variety of options to choose from but we only judged in two categories, Standard Size and Cherry Tomatoes. Similarly to the Salsa competition, the community tasted and voted and the results are in! Our first place winner for the Standard Size Tomato is one of our lovely new vendors Laughing Lizard Farms (link to FB)! In second place we had the Little Big Beef grown by our long time partners Eckhoff Ranch. For our smaller Cherry Tomato competition our winner was the Sungold cherry tomato grown by Chavez Farms. Thank you to all of our vendors for competing in this years event and for making it possible to celebrate this staple of our community!
